Retrograde

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Sydney Poitier (Ivanno Jeremiah) is about to go into the biggest meeting of his life. His best friend Bobby (Oliver Johnstone) has written a movie for NBC that he wants Sydney to star in and this is all meant to sign the papers and get shooting… but. Mr Parks (Stanley Townsend) has other plans. In round after round of arguments and hopeful deals, chaos ensues and how Mr Parks’ own personal mission with his own higher ups is more than getting a film onto a screen

The three actors are so incredible at what they do and the chemistry between them all in it’s unique style of almost interlocking duologues going from one pair of people to the next and to the next and go back and facing the chess match of consequences from the last talks. With witty clever one liners to indicate usually how angry one is with the other there are ‘ohhhh that’s a good line’ moments every 5 minutes.

The production design from the set and lighting to the intricately detailed sound design this ‘simple production’ showcases the best of technical theatre and how it finishes everything with a hat. The Epilogue is also one of the most moving ones I’ve seen in a long time.

You haven’t got much longer to catch this in London as it closes on the 14th June but if you can please get down!

Also shout out to Holly from front of house who helped me get around when I was on crutches for this trip. I was so nervous but luckily the fab accessibility nerves calmed!
