Animal Farm

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Ooooo what a way to end the 2025 @boa_acting season! James Lees blows it out of the park every single time and this was no exception. This play is so well timed in the light of politics today and with the talented performers who know all too well the impact, they really told this story with grit and drive.

The staging was incredible with the Lees style of puppetry and minimalistic set with only hay barrows, a balcony and a side stage for the incredible Courtney Rigby and Amy Preedy to tell the story. The physical theatre they brought was immense weaving in props, strobe and the direction was just chefs kiss

While talking about stand out performances the big three Imogen Thomas as Squealer, Gianemelio Saraceni-Gunner as Napoleon and Millie Almond as Snowball brought such tension and wickedness to their performances as well as Megan Stokes as the hard working Boxer and Henry Hart as Benjamin which had the audience in stitches in every scene.

The production also weaved in a BOA first, an ensemble built up by some of their Year 12 actors which brought an interesting dynamic and filled scenes with personality and depth that I hope they would bring in for the future. Rigby and Preedy also expertly weaved in on stage music and both of their musical talents especially during the fights was something of real dedication and expertise.

Tonight was the last performance of animal farm but keep track of these young performers as they are all incredible!!
