Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

To finish day one in London is a show that I have been listening to since I was 16 and to see it live for the first time was the joy that I needed

The West End debut of this modern musical is homed perfectly by The Other Palace with seats almost all the way round the auditorium and for me sitting on the far left-hand side gave me a good experience of the show though understandably missing out some bits when they’re facing the front (personally I love a good cheap ticket and I sat in B28 which left 99% of performance visible)

This new cast has really settled into their roles with really strong musical and triple threat performances all round of this classic young adult tale of Greek gods and their children. The addition of fan favourite try back into the musical with something I was very happy about and the audience was as well.

The production design of the show from the set to the costumes and the props were incredible and left me thinking as someone who studied stage management “How the hell did they do that?” and that’s always a good thing to have.

The best way I can describe the show was a playful enjoyable evening and as someone who hasn’t read the book and only seen four episodes of the TV show. It’s a brilliant way to get into the universe.

Percy Jackson plays at The Other Palace until later this year, with a UK tour coming in autumn. Are you seeing it at your local Theatre?
