From the candle lit minimalist set to the performances of everyone in the cast with the direction by the incredible Jennifer Tang, IBSL show, SWING ON?! this show was the best start I could’ve had to a London trip.
The casting twist they put on more traditional characters with @nkempsayfi as Posthumus and @amandabrightactor as Pisania shines a light of what representation means in Shakespeare and seeing this on a professional scale really made me feel so seen and after having performed sibling last year making my RSC debut it holds an even more special meaning.
The incredible integrated BSL by the incredible Tasmyn Hocoday completely blew me away. The way the cast made her feel involved and yes at the end of many jibs made it funny for audiences that relied on her as well as those who occasionally glanced. I have seen her interpret my favourite musical ‘The Little Big Things’ for NTatHome and now having her interpret my favourite Shakespeare play?! When I got the chance to meet her after the show I was almost starstruck!
Sadly there isn’t any more interpreted performances for Cymbeline but if you get the chance to see it please do because this is Shakespeare like you’ve never seen before with a play that deserves more recognition than it gets.
